Applications
SBS modified bitumen waterproofing membranes are suitable for a range of building and civil engineering waterproofing applications, particularly where flexibility and reliable waterproof protection are required.
Roof Waterproofing
Suitable for roofing waterproofing systems in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
Underground Structures
Used for waterproofing underground construction and below-grade structural applications.
Ground & Foundation Protection
Applicable to ground waterproofing and moisture-proofing works.
Swimming Pools
Can be used for external waterproofing applications of pools and swimming pools.
Installation Guidelines
The SBS modified bitumen membrane is primarily installed using the torch-applied hot-melt method. Proper surface preparation and controlled heating are essential for achieving reliable adhesion and watertight overlaps.
Step 1. Surface Preparation
Inspect the substrate to ensure it is dry, solid, smooth and clean. Check surface flatness and remove dust, debris and other contaminants before installation.
Step 2. Primer Application
Apply an asphalt-based primer using a roller or brush. The recommended application dosage in the product data sheet is approximately 0.3 kg/m².
Step 3. Torch-Applied Membrane Installation
Use a suitable heating torch to heat the underside of the membrane until the bitumen layer melts. Simultaneously, roll the upper surface with a roller to ensure proper adhesion to the prepared substrate.
Step 4. Overlapping & Joint Treatment
Lay the membrane sheets smoothly and evenly, ensuring accurate positioning. Adjacent sheets should overlap by approximately 100 mm to form continuous waterproof joints.
Step 5. Inspection & Water Testing
After completing the waterproofing layer, allow 24 hours before conducting a water ponding test. Proceed with subsequent construction work only after confirming that there is no water leakage.
Construction Precautions
- Do not carry out installation during rainy or snowy weather, or when wind speeds exceed Level 5.
- The ambient construction temperature should not be lower than 0°C.
- If rain occurs during construction, take appropriate protective measures to protect the installed membrane.
- Ensure uniform heating across the membrane. Maintain an appropriate distance between the torch nozzle and membrane surface.
- During torch application, heat the membrane evenly until the bitumen surface becomes glossy black. The material surface temperature should not exceed 200°C.
- Ensure that adequate site safety measures are in place and fire-fighting equipment is provided in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Use suitable heating equipment and approved fuel or electric heating methods in accordance with the installation requirements.
Important: Torch-applied waterproofing involves open flames and high temperatures. Installation should be performed by trained personnel following applicable fire safety requirements.
